Burning Bright

Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)
Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)

Photographer Donna Hom, whose photos appeared here earlier (“Owl Gallery” Nov. 24 2021) went back to the park at twilight, when most other photographers had quit due to a shortage of photons, and captured these striking images. Here the birds’ irises look like lanterns illuminating the night. It reminded me of William Blakes’ poem:

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?

Thank you, Donna, for sharing these photos.
