Two Owls Two Weeks

Burrowing Owls (Athene cunicularia)

Both of the Burrowing Owls today completed two weeks of residency in the Burrowing Owl Sanctuary in the northeast corner of the park. The mood this morning was calm, even sleepy. The birds probably had a busy night hunting and took advantage of the light human traffic on this Monday morning to catch a few winks — always with ears wide open, relying on signals from nearby ground squirrels, sparrows, pipits and other birds for sounds of alarm.
