Misplaced Kindness
Whatever this ground squirrel was eating, it wasn’t something that grew here. At first I thought it was a French fry. Then, as the squirrel turned its meal, I saw that it was a slice of a red apple. Better for the animal than a fry. But a misplaced kindness, if it was a human’s intentional offering. This one is likely to end up with a bellyache and the squirrel version of the turistas. There is plenty for the squirrels to eat, especially at this time of year when many plants are in seed. Diverting their diets onto human food is never a good idea. Even if the food were appropriate, feeding the wildlife is strictly against park regulations.
