When a bird wants its picture taken it will tell you. That was the case with this White-crowned Sparrow early this morning. A little bit outside of its usual territory, which is more westerly, this one sat like a prince atop a bush near the southeastern corner of the park. It postured and preened and showed me both of its sides, and if the light had been better — heavy rain clouds over Berkeley blocked the rising sun — I would have indulged its vanity with a few more takes. But there it is. One of the most common birds on the Northern California coast, and a very pretty one it is.
