I’ve seen the familiar California Towhee quite a few times, not only in the park but in our back yard. But I’ve never heard it sing before. Not until this morning when I wandered up a grassy little hill where I heard a bird tweeting a tune that was not House Finch, not Song Sparrow, and certainly not Red-winged Blackbird. I stood still for quite a while, listening and hoping that the mystery bird would show itself. And then it did. At the top of an evergreen bush/tree just a few yards away. It kindly allowed me to catch a few seconds of its song before it flitted away again.
