Three New Pups

The steel conduits that lead rainwater to the bay served as hideouts for these three Ground Squirrel pups on the north side of the park. As a runner passed overhead they dashed for cover, but curiosity quickly drew them out again. Two of them didn’t seem to know yet what was good to eat, and what not, but the third found a little stand of green foxtails (wild barley) and went to work on it. The squirrels are intelligent creatures, very alert to their environment, and keenly adapted for survival. One of their talents is the ability to stand tall on two legs, as this little one does at the end of the video.
