At least two Brown Pelicans, long absent from the waters near the park, have come back this week. Both were busy this morning, and the calm, almost flat water surface made their hunting easy. I saw them dive and score half a dozen times in quick succession. A seagull or two closely followed each of the big birds, hoping for a slip-up or a handout, but the Pelican’s big beak disposed of everything, leaving no leftovers.
