Striper Run

The Bay was crawling with fishing boats this afternoon. The Striped Bass (Morone saxatilis) were running, and every kind of vessel from a rowboat with a motor to a 50-foot party boat headed out into the stiff westerly breeze and whitecaps to try their luck.

On the incoming tide, a small crowd of shore fishers also worked the south end of the North Basin, along the Virginia Street Extension. Photographer Phil Rowntree, himself an experienced fisher, reports that good sized fish were being taken.
