Rare Goldeneye

The video shows possibly the only Common Goldeneye that has spent time in the North Basin so far this winter season. This is an immature male. I spotted a mature male on the north side of the park, heading in the direction of the North Basin on December 13, but  I haven’t seen that highly visible and distinct bird since then. This youngster has been hanging around with the abundant American Coots. I haven’t seen a Goldeneye female (yet).

Goldeneyes were more common in past seasons; here is a string of posts where Goldeneyes appear or are mentioned.
