Pelicans in Slow Motion
It was one of those days when Brown Pelicans, three of them, were hunting in the southern portion of the North Basin. They were not in a hurry. I was very lucky to be there and to capture moments of their activity in high-speed video. In the concluding sequence, the large bird glides northward just inches above the water’s surface, approaching a raft of Bufflehead. The smaller birds had nothing to fear from the pelican, but they weren’t taking chances. In panic, they took flight, dozens of them. Thanks to high-speed video, the flight of all the birds appears in slow motion, as if in a dream. The background music is by bensound.com.
