Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri)

In a recent post I noted the sandpiper’s method of speed-pecking, and hypothesized that the bird might only get a bite to eat in one peck out of ten. A scientific reader challenged me to find out the actual percentage of the bird’s hits by filming it in slow motion. The video above responds to that challenge. I’m a little pressed for time right now so I will leave it to this reader, and any other reader so inclined, to perform the necessary observation and calculation, and hopefully post it in the Comment section below.
