Pauper Tide

North Basin Cove at minus 1.6 tide on 1/12/21, seen from near the Schoolhouse Creek outfall

If a super high tide is a King Tide, what’s a super low tide? Yesterday at sunset the tide was so low that with a good pair of mud boots you could have walked across the North Basin Cove. From the Virginia Street Extension border in the south to past the sunken wreck a few hundred yards to the north, there wasn’t water deeper than an occasional puddle. The NOAA official level came in at a minus 1.6 feet, the lowest of the year so far, not to be matched until this coming April 29 when we should see a low of minus 1.7. On May 27 it gets even better, with a low of minus 2.1 feet expected.
