This video aims to help park visitors spot the Burrowing Owl for themselves. The location is the nature area on the north side of the park. A standpoint on the paved trail about ten or twenty yards east of the maintenance road (the dirt road next to the Barn Owl box) provides a good vantage. The owl is about forty or fifty feet south, in the middle of a patch of grass that’s a bit taller and darker than the grass around it. Look for something like a light brown tennis ball in the grass. If the owl is standing even halfway upright, as in the video, and you have average good eyesight, you will be able to see it.
But if the owl is hunkered down as in the first photo below, you’ll need an eagle’s eye or a long zoom lens to spot it. And if it’s even lower, as in the second photo below, forget about it. Come back later and try again.
