Despite dogs and off-leash people repeatedly violating the nature area on the north side of the park, despite raptors in the sky, and despite howling winds that knocked down a big tree, the Burrowing Owl remains in its squirrel condo, more or less exactly where it has been seen almost every day since December. More and more park visitors are seeing a Burrowing Owl for the first time and becoming believers that these birds exist not only on the signs but in the feather. Viewing this owl is an experience to treasure, since these birds are in trouble due to habitat loss, and nobody knows when or whether we’ll see another one.
