Both owls were out around 9:45 this morning. The east owl puffed itself up almost into a ball and looked alert in its usual position in front of the concrete slab with coloring similar to itself.
The north owl similarly stood in its usual spot. Sometimes it hunkered down; at other times it stood up. It monitored its environment with quick twists of the head, as usual.
Minutes after I took these pictures and had halfway reached my car, a sudden downpour opened up. I should have returned to see what the owls would do, but I had forgotten my umbrella, and had to shield the camera from the rain. Maybe next time.
