Black-bellied Plover (Pluvialis squatarola)

A few days after David Hauer’s beautiful photo of the Black-bellied Plover on the mudflats near Schoolhouse Creek, I visited that spot and found, to my bafflement, not a single bird of any description in the area. Imagine my surprise then to see this bird, which might be the same individual, perched on a rock on the east side of the park. The bird took little notice of my presence with tripod and camera. It very slowly turned its head after a while to look in my direction, but found nothing of concern and turned away again. The bird had no visible companions and appeared to be doing nothing in particular, except possibly enjoying the morning sun.
