Mom Feeding
It will soon be breeding and nesting time, and this House Finch mom-to-be is building up her reserves by taking advantage of the conveniently located bounty of fennel seeds. The fennel is an immigrant from Greece and the Mediterranean generally, but it plays a key role here in the park as a safe haven and life support system for a series of native birds, such as these finches.
