Kevin and Brian, members of Berkeley’s Parks and Waterfront Department, are at work exposing a leaky 8-inch PVC irrigation pipe. The leak was discovered and repairs begun in May of 2017, but the City abandoned work on the job for ten months, leaving a partially covered hole. See history of this job. This month, Parks management vowed to get the repair done, and today — defying the rainy weather — these two men were hard at work exposing the pipe and preparing for a pressure test to locate and assess the severity of the leak. Although Parks management stopped irrigation here five or six years ago because of the drought, the pipe is believed to also supply water for the fire hydrant (standpipe) on the west side of the park, near the picnic area.
