Lark in the Grass

This beautiful Western Meadowlark photo is the work of Phil Rowntree, who cruises the park on his bicycle and has a keen eye and great timing. This bird sat in the grass inside the fenced Burrowing Owl preserve on the northeast corner of the park. A small flock of meadowlarks, maybe six or so, flitted around in that area. Phil captured one in the ideal position, with its colorful breast and distinctive collar facing into the rising sun.
