Keeping Warm

With the morning temperature in the high 30s, keeping warm had a high priority. The Burrowing Owl in the park, sitting in Perch B, puffed itself up a bit and smoothed its outer feathers into a tight seal. it helped that there was almost no wind.

A small number of park visitors had a chance to see the bird on my screen and with their natural eyes. Some had only seen the signs but never seen the real bird. They were thrilled and declared themselves believers that Burrowing Owls actually existed.

During the 20 minutes or so that my video camera ran, the owl hardly moved. It swiveled its head left and right in a relaxed way, and once did a bit of nibble-preening on its front, but otherwise kept still.
