Jackrabbit!
The area fenced for Burrowing Owls has, as yet, no owls, but it has another resident who made a dash for cover as I approached shortly before noon today: this jackrabbit. I’d seen this creature there before, but always well hidden or gone in a flash. This was the first time I could get a photo. There are other jackrabbits in other areas of the park, as well.
This is very probably a Black-tailed Jackrabbit, Lepus Californicus. Read all about it on Wikipedia, here.
