I Am a Feather

I am a feather
Dropped by the bird of life
Once I beat the air
On her downstroke
Let it slip past me
On the upstroke
My wingmates and I
Gave our mother flight
What marvels I saw
Admiring glances saw me
Is there anything
So enviable
As a bird in flight?
Now I float solo
On quiet ripples
I am of the water
Not of the air
No more beating, straining, stressing
I am an infant
In the arms of Fate
I am meditation
I am serenity
I inspire haikus
(Not this one)
I am the Buddha
I am a feather.

  • I like the close focus – though I feel loss in feather for the previous flight. I like this line: “Is there anything
    So enviable
    As a bird in flight?”

  • Feather Down Feather
I Down Do No Longer Fly
    I Now Just Weather

  • Feather Down Feather
I Down Do No Longer Fly
I Sit Here Just To Weather

  • What is the source of this poem?
