Hovering Hawk
In the stiff western breeze after Thursday morning’s drenching rainstorm, this Red-tailed Hawk hovered over the west side of the park, its eyes piercing this way and that. When I first saw it in the distance, I was sure it was a White-tailed Kite, well known for hovering. Not until I got closer and saw the color could I get it right. This bird might have taken hover lessons from the kite. While I watched, it caught nothing. Moments later I saw a second bird that might have been this one’s twin, a bit too far in the distance to get an image. The video is slowed down a bit.
