Photographer Phil Rowntree captured this magnificent bird in a regal pose, with its royal robe flared and its gaze stern, unforgiving. Photographer and raptor expert John Davis, who separately photographed this bird, identifies it as a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk. Its location here is on the edge of the fennel forest on the northwest side of the park; the time 9:19 a.m. on 2/27. The bird here has a sweeping view of the Nature Area.
