Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia)

On the second day of strong and chilly northwest winds, around midday, the Burrowing Owl in the north side nature area rose a bit taller than yesterday and allowed itself to be seen with unaided human eyes. The bird gave most of its attention to the south, turning its back to park visitors on the paved perimeter trail, but occasionally looked northward, as in this snapshot.
