Gull Scrap

Western Gulls (Larus occidentalis)

These two Western Gulls got in a tug-of-war over some piece of scrap that was so tough it took both of their strengths to pull it apart. The gull on the right got the better piece. It gobbled the piece and then went looking for more. The gull on the left didn’t really like its piece; it spit it out a couple of times. The gull on the right then tried to grab the item, and failing that, it grabbed the other bird’s wing. What a breach of protocol! But the victim gull ignored the provocation and didn’t peck back. The two birds went on and ignored one another.
