Great Blue Heron Visits
A visit from a Great Blue Heron is always an attention-getter at the park. This individual held court on the grassy hillside just north of the row of cedar trees along Spinnaker Way, in plain view of non-feathered park visitors. The traces of red on its beak and neck show that it’s recently had a meal. The areas slightly removed from the rocks at the water’s edge — where ground squirrels rule — teems with gophers, which seem to be the heron’s favorite prey here.
