OK, OK, I know the Great Blue Heron is not a sparrow. It belongs to the Ardeidea bird family, which isn’t even in the same Order as sparrows. The question is, does this heron know that it’s not a sparrow? We’re accustomed to seeing it wading in the mud or stalking gophers in the grass. Here it is perching in the treetops like any passerine. With its striped crown, it might even be a White-Crowned Godzilla Sparrow. What exactly is it doing up there? It’s a carnivore, so cypress seeds or pine cones don’t get it salivating. Maybe it just wanted to get away from those loose dogs?
