Finches by the Score
Not all birds wander elsewhere during the summer. Among those who take their vacation right here at home are the House Finches. Scores of them flew up when alarmed and then settled again, mostly on the ground on the west side of the park, where it hasn’t been mowed, and where seeds must be abundant. I saw very few of the colorful adult males among them. This flock probably represents the recent hatchlings.
