Early Grebes

This set of four Horned Grebes found shelter from the brisk morning breeze just below the Open Circle Viewpoint. They busied themselves with preening. Feeding did not seem on the agenda of the moment. These were the first Horned Grebes of the fall season, to my knowledge. They are in their plain non-breeding plumage. Last year we had the treat of following a solo Horned Grebe in full breeding plumage, quite a spectacular little bird.
