Crows v. Hawk

Photographer Phil Rowntree shot these images of a Red-tailed Hawk, first sitting placidly on a tree, then being chased by a mob of American Crows.

If the issue between these birds were food, there wouldn’t be so much hostility. The hawk feeds on small mammals. The crows are interested in small mammals only if they’re carrion. So it isn’t food. The crows are monopolists. They want no other bird in their territory.
