Ground Squirrel male (Otospermophilus beecheyii)

Ground Squirrel mating season is upon us, and here was another male hot to trot. I’m not totally sure about the anatomy, but I suspect he was standing erect in more ways than one. What impressed me most was the controlled way he descended from standing on his hind legs. The move reminded me of a silverback gorilla. Shortly after this display, he took off like shot out of a cannon after a female and the two raced over the rocks and out of sight.
