Black Oystercatcher Getting Breakfast
I’d wondered what Black Oystercatchers actually eat. They’re stuck with a weird name. You don’t “catch” oysters, they can’t run. The bird isn’t big enough to actually crack open a grown-up oyster shell — grown-up humans with big knives have a hard enough time. Yesterday morning, walking on the perimeter trail on the east side of the park, looking over the edge down on the rip-rap by the water’s edge, I happened to see a B.O. actually getting breakfast. For more about these birds, check out their page on audubon.org.
