Bird Gets Worm
There’s an iconic photo of this bird pulling a long worm from the mud, and I was disappointed that the plovers I saw on our local terrain were only picking up little blobby things. But then I got my wish! This Semipalmated Plover found a culinary bonanza. The bird had to stretch its full height to get the worm clear of the mud. Then it washed the worm off, decided which end to eat first, and in short order gobbled the whole thing down. Then a rinse of the beak, a quick poop, and it was time to relax and preen a bit.
