Autumn Equinox: Climate Action
- Monday, Sept 23rd
- Gather at 6 pm
- Activities start at 6:15
- Sunset at 7:05
This year, the autumn equinox falls during a week of climate protests organized by the planet’s younger generation who will have to live in a period of greater climate disaster if effective measures are not taken soon (Re: Global Climate Strike – Sept 20-27th)
In solidarity with Global Climate Strike, this year’s equinox gathering at the César Chávez Solar Calendar will be a time of celebration and reflection during a week of many direct actions and confrontations. People will gather at the calendar and, as we watch the sun drop toward the western horizon, Rabbi David Cooper will lead a series of interactive moments that will raise our consciousness about our planet’s relationship to the sun and its place within the solar system and within the cosmos.
NOTE: Global climate concerns tie in with Cesar Chavez’s and Dolores Huerta’s environmental activism. The autumn equinox gathering celebrates the Chavez virtue of Courage.
