American Coots Feeding at Low Tide
The extremely low tide in the evening of January 23 2016 followed a King high tide. The mudflats in North Basin east of Cesar Chavez Park were exposed to an unusual degree. A population of more than a hundred American Coot took advantage to feed vigorously.
Coot on the Path
At the King Tide on Dec. 14 2016 in the North Basin of the Berkeley Marina, this flock of Coots took advantage of a breach in the seawall and explored the shallow mud on the flooded human pathway along the Virginia Street extension.
