Not far from the dramatic Crimson Clover, on the eastern slope just north of the flare station, lies a stretch of its plainer sister: smaller, rounder, mostly pink clover blossoms about a half to three quarters of an inch in diameter.
When I first saw these I was stumped. There are about 300 recognized varieties of clover, and I couldn’t say with any certainty which label fits this one. I asked readers for help. That help has now arrived in the person of Jutta Burger, co-director of the Flora Friday series; she says with confidence that this is Rose Clover (Trifolium hirtum). Thank you!
