That Kite-Eating Cove

In the Peanuts comic strip, there’s the kite-eating tree.  In Cesar Chavez Park, it’s the North Basin that gobbles kites whose owners have an “oops” experience.  It happens to kite pilots, even very good ones, at every annual Kite Festival.  Afterwards, when there’s a very low tide, the attentive park visitor on the east side path can spot the wrecks half sunk in the mud.  Eventually they’ll lie flat and the mud will bury them.  Next year, others will join them.  The cove is hungry!
