A local radio, according to reports, announced that the last sunset of the year would be a great one. People responded. You couldn’t get a parking place in the circle at the end of Spinnaker Way. Cellphones held high and 35mm cameras tight to the eye took in what turned out to be nice, but not super spectacular, as sunsets go. I’ve photographed probably a hundred of them (see the Sunset Gallery on this website). The spoiler, as usual, was a fog bank. The sun managed to peek out from under it, but the bank stretched so far back toward the horizon that the sun could not throw colors into the high sky, where dramatic clouds just waited to be lit in crimson hues, but were not. Still, the evening was gorgeous. And minutes later, the full moon rose in the east. But that’s another story.
