Resting Grebe

This Western Grebe sat in the mud not three yards from the rocks at the water’s edge.  It was a rare opportunity to photograph a bird that normally swims rapidly and has a knack for disappearing underwater just when the photographer has got it almost in focus.  The bird’s legs are so far back on its body that it can barely walk on land.  This individual may wait until the tide returns to resume its usual activity.
