After a false alarm weeks ago, when it looked like the birds had settled in but it was just a scouting party checking the place out (I fall for that every year!) — this time it looks like the Red-winged Blackbirds are here to stay for their breeding season in the northwest quadrant of the park. Or are they? They were present on top of the fennel yesterday in numbers, and they were spread out both on the north and the northwestern fennel groves. I saw more than a dozen males. But today (Saturday) I saw one lone male and no other. Was this another scouting party?
