Holi Holiday Livens Up Park

A Holi celebrant, Sheila, and I in a wefie at the festival

The liveliest and possibly loudest party I ever saw in Cesar Chavez Park happened this afternoon on the west side picnic area, where a crowd of well over a hundred mostly young and colorfully painted celebrants danced to disco music as part of the annual Holi holiday or Festival of Colors. It’s a celebration of spring and of good over evil and it’s a great excuse to cover each other in colors, throw water balloons, eat, drink, and be merry. It started as a Hindu festival, but has spread beyond the devout of that religion, and no wonder, because it’s just plain fun and vibrates with good feeling.  Check out the details on Wikipedia.
